Animal Adaptation Assignment:
- Choose an animal that lives at Craters of the Moon National Monument (invertebrate or vertebrate). Check out books from the library, use the internet (with your parent's permission), or ask Mrs. Barton for material to research this animal.
- READ! READ! READ! ...about your animal. While you read, take notes and see how many of the Animal Adaptation Observation Questions you can answer.
- When you feel you have a good understanding of this animal's adaptations, write one solid paragraph (10-15 sentences) to teach about this unique animal and its adaptations.
Animal Adaptations Observation Questions:
1. What special adaptations does the animal have to help it succeed in its environment? (What is its habitat?)
2. Are the adaptations a physical part of the animal? Or, are the adaptations more of a behavior that the animal uses?
3. If this animal didn't have adaptations, what problems might it face?
4. Do other animals in this environment have similar adaptations? Which animals?
5. Is this animal dependent on other animals and or plants?
6. What survival adaptations does this animal have (avoiding predators, or defend themselves)?
7. Do they have adaptations if their habitat is changed? (migrate, hibernate, camouflage....?)
